The Birsay Disc was one of the very first designs from Sheila Fleet back in 1993. Inspired by the markings found on a small lead disc found at the Brough of Birsay in Orkney. The Brough, a small tidal island, supported a thriving metal work industry between the 7th and 8th century. Many pieces of jewellery have been found from that era including brooches, rings and dresspins, made for the more affluent members of the Pictish community on the Orkney mainland.
